For example, the reflection of an object in a mirror is an 'ābhāsa'. The word is widely used in the Advaita vedānta in the context of the relationship between the individual self and the higher self. The individual self, according to one of the schools of the Advaita Vedānta, is merely an 'ābhāsa', a reflection, of the higher self in and through the mind.
